Returns: Farmers have the ability to control costs for their seed supplier by ordering only the seed that is needed. With open return policies, many farmers order a little extra and a typical seed company has between 8-25% returns. However, that small amount of extra seed ends up costing seed companies a lot of money. It is costly to return, repackage, retest for quality and create new lots of the seed. For us to offer significant savings to the farmer, we need the farmer’s help. If you are concerned about returns we do offer a return program on our conventional corn seed.
Replants: Until the advent of traits, most seed companies did not offer replant seed or did so at only a 50% level. With the launch of traits, seed companies started offering full replant programs to try to gain a competitive advantage. To determine if an operation should purchase our replant program, the farmer should calculate the % of seed that they have had to replant over the past several years. In addition to our replant program, it is also possible to buy replant insurance from the RMA/Federal Crop Insurance. Some farmers will also buy private policies for additional coverage.
